The hardest thing for seniors to give up as they age is their independence. As the baby boomer population ages, more support services are needed to help seniors maintain their independence and stay safe. That’s the focus of National Senior Independence Month, celebrated in February.
Many older people will need some help as even some of the simplest tasks can become challenging. Senior assisted living facilities throughout the DFW area offer a wide variety of services to help seniors maintain their independence while still living primarily on their own.
Senior Independence Tips
Before an assisted living facility may be necessary, there’s a lot that can be done to keep seniors safe at home. Here are some important safety tips for seniors.
- Clear clutter from floors and walkways, and keep items such as clothes, books, papers and trash put away in safe places.
- Keep rooms well lit by installing timers on lamps and automatic night lights.
- Make all items easily accessible, including the refrigerator, cabinets, drawers, doors and shelving.
- Install grab bars and handrails in the restrooms near the shower, bathtub and toilet. Use non-slip mats and placing double-sided tape under rugs can also help minimize slips.
Senior Assisted Living Facilities DFW Area
When it comes time to look for a senior assisted living facility, use free the resources that are available. I was faced with the issue of finding specialized care for my mother when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008. With so many assisted living facilities in the DFW area, it took a lot of research and investigation of my own to find the right place. That experience inspired me to create a FREE service to help other families. Contact me today to get your free guide.
