Dear Paul:
My dad had a bad fall at home last weekend. Because he lives alone, it was several hours before anyone found him. He suffered a concussion and a fracture to his shoulder. He will be discharged from the hospital today and is headed to an inpatient rehab center for a few weeks of therapy.
During his rehab center stay, my wife and I will be trying to find a senior living community for him to move to when he finishes his therapy. We’ve been trying to get him to make this move for several years now without success. But I think the fall frightened him and he knows he needs a change.
My brother and sister-in-law live in Virginia where they recently moved her mother to a residential care home. I haven’t heard of these before but from what they describe, it might be a good solution for my dad.
Does the Dallas/Fort Worth area have residential care homes? Can we use my Dad’s Medicare to help pay for it? This is all really new to us.
Sincerely,
Tim
Dear Tim:
Sounds like a frightening experience for your father and your family to go through! But I’m glad to hear your Dad is doing better.
We hear similar stories from many families. While they’ve tried to encourage the senior they love to make a move to a senior living community, it often takes a crisis for their elder family member to agree.
The good news is that the north Texas area is home to many top quality residential care homes. In fact, about 35 – 40% of the families we help opt for this type of community. Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover the cost of these communities. Private family funds are the typical source of payment.
A few benefits of a residential care home that might appeal to you and your Dad include:
- Home-like environment
- Smaller in size than most assisted living communities
- Lower resident to staff ratios means more one-on-one time
All inclusive monthly fees that are typically much lower than an assisted living community
Our team knows the residential care homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area well. We can help you find the one that will be a good fit for your Dad.
Because we are compensated by a referral fee when a senior moves in to a community or care home, there is no charge to families for our service. Call us today 214-929-5055 to get started!
Sincerely,
Paul
