Facing a diagnosis such as dementia with a loved one can be very challenging. The concerns around your loved one’s health are paramount, of course. Soon, though, comes the reality of finding adequate care for him or her. Factors such as location, levels of care, and finances come into play. You have several options for Dallas Memory Care facilities.
I understand these fears and challenges. In 2008, I was faced with the issue of finding a memory care facility for my mother when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. With so many care facilities in the Dallas area, it took a lot of research and investigation of my own to find the right place. That experience inspired me to create a FREE service to help other families just like I helped Bob and Jane Ann, below. Click below to get your copy!
Paul Markowitz with Senior Living Specialists is outstanding! We had an issue with my sister, and Paul was enormous help.
My sister, Mary Kay, has vascular dementia. She was slowly deteriorating, and we moved her closer to us so my husband and I could take better care of her. She was forgetting things, lousing things, not telling the doctors what was really going on (‘everything is great’). She lived close to us for about a year and a half, when she her condition degraded considerably. She began wandering from her apartment, asking directions to her previous home in NY. We were in a position where we had to find a facility that could help her, and we had to find it in a hurry.
Paul was referred to us by Mary Kay’s doctor, Dr Studley. He immediately went to work determining Mary Kay’s condition, and what facility would best suit her. We didn’t realize that different facilities have different characteristics, and cater to different types of conditions. He quickly found three candidate facilities for us to interview. His list of questions to ask the facility is great. Some of the questions we had thought of, but quite a few we did not, his list is very comprehensive. Interesting, the one facility we had look at in the beginning, and were considering, was not on his list. After he explained why, due to Mary Kay’s condition, it made perfect sense.
Financial considerations are always top of mind, and the three facilities met all of the financial criteria, both current and in the future. We know Mary Kay will eventually need memory care. At the time we moved her, we were concerned she might need memory care sooner, so cost was very important. As it turned out, she has stabilized, and is doing very well with help. Paul helped get the lowest price for services, by helping us determine the specific services needed, and knowing what incentives were available. Cost consideration did not mean we had to compromise on the facility or the level of care. Paul has this down to a science.
Paul helped us find a mover, and we moved Mary Kay in about a week from the time we started the process. Any move is traumatic, but knowing we made the right decision on the facility made the move less stressful.
Mary Kay has settled in to her new home, and likes her new friends!
Thank you Paul and Senior Living Specialists!
