Finding a Fort Worth Memory Care Facility

It’s a difficult statistic to face — by the time a person is 85 years of age, the odds of developing dementia are about one in two. If you’re already facing this reality, you know how hard it can be when you realize your aging loved one needs specialized care.

Dementia is a symptom of brain disease, such as Alzheimer’s Disease. While there are treatments to help the symptoms of dementia somewhat, there is no cure. Researchers also don’t have a clear answer on causes of dementia. For a family with a parent of other loved one with the disease, it’s a difficult diagnosis to face. Often, a specialized memory care facility is necessary to help keep the person safe. [Read more…]

Latest Treatments in Grapevine Alzheimer’s Care

Research into effective treatment for Alzheimer’s is changing the level of Alzheimer’s care every day. Facilities that focus specifically on Alzheimer’s care, such as those in the Dallas and Grapevine area, follow the latest studies carefully in order to offer the best care to their patients.

An interesting piece of research out of Ohio State University studied the effects of equine therapy on Alzheimer’s care. While Alzheimer’s disease is most commonly associated with memory loss, it is often accompanied by personality changes, like irritability and withdrawal. The study found that spending time with horses could provide much needed relief to dementia sufferers, helping them both physically and mentally. Other animals also have been shown to help Alzheimer’s patients. [Read more…]

How to Find Plano TX Assisted Living

Do You Need Assisted Living Care in an Emergency Situation?

Anything you have to do in life is easier to do when you have ample time. Unfortunately, sometimes situations don’t unfold that ideally. This is often the result of an unexpected illness or injury. In these cases, you may have some time while your loved one recovers in a hospital or temporary care facility, but the pressure will be on to find a permanent solution. [Read more…]

Finding Assisted Living Care for Your Loved One After Surgery

Anyone recovering from surgery needs a little help. When that person is elderly, the amount of help they need, and for how long, can increase dramatically. The goal of any recovery is of course to get the patient back to how they felt before the surgery, or even better in some cases. After surgery and discharge from the hospital, the biggest concerns affecting full recovery include:

  • Proper wound care to decrease the risk of infection.
  • Adherence to medication schedules.
  • Activity levels as recommended by the medical team.
  • Travel arrangement for follow-up appointment.
  • Proper diet and exercise to promote healing.
  • Adequate mobility function to reduce risk of falls or other complications.

Grapevine Assisted Living Advice

Taking the first steps toward a move into an assisted living facility isn’t always easy. Buy many people find that once they get past some of their initial fears and concerns, the process gets easier. If at all possible, pre-planning can make the process go much more smoothly. Not all families have the luxury of taking their time looking for an Grapevine assisted living facility. When you do, consider these steps:

  • Reassure your loved one that the nothing needs to happen right away. When the process is more gradual, your loved one will feel more in control.
  • Focus your conversations on planning for the future, not taking action today.
  • Focus on ways assisted living allows people to maintain independence while offering care critical to their health and safety.
  • Make your loved one part of the process as much as possible, offering options at every step along the way.
